DS
How’s Berlin?

GT
Is this the interview?

DS
Can’t say..Maybe

GT
hahaha

DS
haha yes:)

GT
Berlin is a great place I’ve come in the winter when it’s generally dark and cold, perfect for getting working on music. Lots of like-minded people and a very inspiring place aurally for sure.

DS
Surely you miss manchester though..What do you miss the most?

GT
Strangly I miss the atmosphere of the parties in Manchester - there’s a sinister vibe to them and as much as I’m a massive hippy, UK is a bleak place and it’s reflected in it’s events.

DS
You’ve been out to a few things in Berlin by now then..How would you describe the vibe there?

GT
Intense. The parties seem to go on forever I’ve played out here starting my sets at 06:00 and 07:00 am, the club Subland blew me away. The decor is a big thing here and each party has it’s own unique style.

DS
and  breakcore/hardcore is pretty prevalent there?

GT
Yeah, the strange thing I’ve noticed is that music is a very personal and almost tribalistic thing here. Breakcore as we know it has a large following and stranger still it has it’s own underground here as oppose to say the more widely known artists which for me was crazy as we’re all underground aren’t we?

DS
Really?? I can’t imagine that..
and I know you from your music as Terrorhate back in the day. There’s a similarity in sound I think though they are clearly different. What kind of changes were going through your mind musically as you moved onto this project?

GT
Yeah, I think the energy is still there, I feel the same when I make music but I’ve perhaps stopped for a moment and thought about it a little differently, perhaps a little more subtle in my approach but not in my output if that makes sense.

DS
Yep, its still nails..Have you thought about making other styles?

GT
Oh yes, I’d like to try and keep Gore Tech as versatile as I can but I’ve been working on a few ideas that may be pushing it to call it “Gore Tech”. I’ve been putting a few ideas down for a doom / dub project with live instruments but I think I’d need to get a lot more research done. At the moment Gore Tech is certainly keeping me busy enough, which is great, it fills its personal purpose enough for me.

DS
…and where do you normally start when writing a tune?

GT
Sometimes it can be a single sample that I’ve had floating around in my head or perhaps in my sample banks but that it’s self is the magic part. when it comes to the “you’ve-got-to-get-a- track-done-sharpish” sort of mind set I normally start with the main section the busiest or the
loudest and work backwards with atmospheres and so on but where it ends I can’t always predict. Other artists have very clear paths, with me it’s a total fluke every time hahah..

DS
ahha:)) and what’s your main daw?

GT
FL Studio, Audition sometimes, Reaper or Protools. I use Waves for processing and a few other sweet pieces of V-kit like the Amplitube and Ohmboyz..

DS
Nice..
Do you have any releases in the pipeline?

GT
Yes! I’ve been busy, a little too busy, firstly I’ve been working with Bong-Ra to remix and collaborate on mixes of one of out favourite artists ‘Author and Punisher’. We’re currently at the stage of looking for a perspective label. I’ve enlisted the help of a lot of friends and great producers to work on a remix ep of my first 12” release (Gore Tech / Rotator - Heretic EP). This is a remix album that will be available on Peace Off Digital sometime early next year. In the theme of collaborations I’ll be co-producing the latest album of a UK death- metal band (More news on this very soon). I’m releasing a track on a 2 track EP with 2methylbul1ol for Bristol’s Formyl Recordings, and I’m 5 tracks into my second album…

DS
Crikey, you have been busy..!
Interesting to hear about the band as well..
Who’s piqued your interest recently then? Old or new?

GT
Well I’m a strange creature I often get promo sent through and then I’ll buy the record in 6 months time and fall in love with it all over again on another format, there are a few producers that sort of stay with me forever. But right now…Freqax he’s got a really unique style, Gizmode from Bristol is truly something else. I recently bought my self ‘Environments’ by Machine Code„, that’s blown me away.

DS
Would you class that as underground or underground-underground?

GT
hahah I don’t know I’m new here, I still amazes me.

DS
Favourite gaming experience or game?

GT
Well I used to love games like Myst.. I know it sounds strange but modern warfare games scare the crap out of me - they’re too real. I think one game that will stay with me forever is Metal Gear solid, that was something very unique in it’s gameplay. But more recently Skyrim took my breath away, playing it last winter on the projector was really great.

DS
ahha did you lose a small bit of life then? Everyone seems to get fully sucked in…and the music’s lovely actually..

GT
Yeah most the time I’d be thinking I had music work to do but I certainly found it was relaxing and immersive. I like the adventure of it all and apart from the brutal 12th century violence it wasn’t too aggressive. And yeah I like quite a bit of ambient music more so in the Winter.

DS
I was going to ask what you think of breakcore, where it’s comes from/where its going..and if you stand by the name? If you think that’s a meaningful question..

GT
Sure I think it’s very relevant. It’s changed me as a person: My goals and aspirations and it’s certainly given me a drive in life. It’s why I do what I do, but it isn’t really a literal term. It’s a moniker that describes the term “Miscellaneous electronic music” better than say… “Miscellaneous electronic music” does. I think it’s important that it continues to challenge. Breakcore was built off of pre-existing styles of music but it will die as a style if producers become complacent or blase and refuse to build off of music styles of the future. I think it remains a strong style and the people involved are very passionate, friendly, and open-minded.

DS
Very true. That is your all…unless you want to mention your upcoming gigs?

GT
I’ll be playing in Pau, France on the 7th December, Portugal on the 13th and Berlin on the 20th, All the events pages and info can be found at facebook.com/goretechmusic or alternatively www.goretechmusic.com.
